چکیده
Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris L. var. cicla), a popular leafy vegetable grown mainly for its ease of production and nutritional content, is normally used as good source microminerals iron (Fe) zinc (Zn). Improving plant uptake Fe Zn could assist in reducing micromineral deficiencies humans, which are global problem. A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Council, Stellenbosch to assess response soil trace elements under zeolite sandy soil. The consisted four treatments, with six replicates arranged randomized complete block design. Zeolite applied 0%; 10%; 20% 30% combination harvested analysis 143 days after transplanting. Soil samples were also collected end each growing season. leaves analysed Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu content same elements. study found that did not improve Mn. had an inverse relationship application while residual effect showed trend, but only second This indicated cannot be by can rectify heavy metal-infested soils.

Effect of Swiss Chard (Beta vulgaris var. cicla) as Nitrite Replacement on Color Stability and Shelf-Life of Cooked Pork Patties during Refrigerated Storage
In this study, the effects of pre-converted nitrite from Swiss chard powder (PS) on the color stability and shelf-life of cooked pork patties during refrigerated storage for 28 d were investigated. Nitrite was added at a concentration of approximately 120 ppm. Five treatments were formulated as follows: Control (120 ppm nitrite), T1 (2% PS), T2 (2% pre-converted nitrite from celery powder; PC),...

To investigate the effects of two cadmium-tolerant bacteria, Staphylococcus pasteuri (S. pasteuri X1) and Agrobacterium tumefaciens (A. tumefaciens X2), on cadmium uptake by the cadmium hyperaccumulator plant Beta vulgaris var. cicla L., a pot experiment with artificially contaminated soil was conducted. The results demonstrated that both cadmium-tolerant bacteria enhanced the dry weight of Bet...

Total, soluble and insoluble oxalates were extracted and analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) following the preparation of kimchi using silver beet (Beta vulgaris var. cicla) stems and leaves. As silver beet contains high oxalate concentrations and consumption of high levels can cause the development of kidney stones in some people, the reduction of oxalate during preparati...

Translocation of micronutrients was investigated in Phaseolus vulgaris (var. Annapurna) grown on soil amended with paper mill sludge. The plants of P. vulgaris were grown in soil amended with 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% paper mill sludge to study the accumulation and translocation of iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr) and lead (Pb) in plant parts (shoot, root, leave...

The objective of this study is to identify an adequate zinc (Zn) foliar spray concentration which corrects Zn deficiency without disrupting other plant mineral contents, enhances plant growth, and thereby corn silage yield when grown on sandy soil. A field experiment was conducted using five Zn foliar spray concentrations (w/v): 0.03%, 0.07%, 0.10%, 0.14% and 0.18%. Zn sulfate (ZnSO4. 7H2O) was...
